Cisco’s OCP 2026 Update: What AI Networking Means for UAE Businesses
17 October 2026 · XConnect FZE · 2 min read
Cisco announced new networking silicon, systems and optical developments at the Open Compute Project Global Summit on 12 October 2026. The update focuses on connecting larger AI environments within and between data centres, with an emphasis on open infrastructure.
What Cisco announced
According to Cisco, the first systems using its Silicon One G300 are shipping to customers. It also introduced G302 switching silicon for top-of-rack deployments, with shipments planned before the end of 2026. Separately, Cisco and NVIDIA intend to develop an open specification for a new 400Gb/s-per-lane pluggable optical module called USFP.
These are different stages of availability. A planned specification or shipment date should not be treated as a product already available for a local deployment. Buyers should confirm regional availability, supported configurations and delivery schedules directly with their suppliers.
Practical implications for UAE businesses
The following is our practical interpretation for infrastructure planning, rather than a claim made in the announcement.
For a business considering AI applications, this news is a useful prompt to review infrastructure requirements before selecting equipment. Start with the workload: where will it run, how will users access it, and what information must move between offices, cloud services and data centres? A small cloud-based deployment and an on-premises computing cluster can require very different network designs.
- Measure before upgrading. Record current utilisation, latency and application performance. Set a baseline so that a proposed improvement can be evaluated against an actual business need.
- Check the complete environment. Include cabling, optics, switch compatibility, power, cooling and rack space in the assessment. A faster component alone does not establish that the overall system is ready.
- Plan for operations. Ask how the solution will be monitored, maintained and recovered after a failure. Include support arrangements, spare equipment and a tested rollback plan.
- Use a staged pilot. Validate a representative workload before committing to a wider rollout. Document acceptance criteria and compare the results with the cost and complexity of the change.
For UAE organisations, a practical next step is to connect their application roadmap with a documented network and facilities assessment. That creates a clearer basis for deciding what to upgrade now and what can wait.
