Retrospective: This article was prepared on 17 October 2026 for our June 2025 archive. It reviews the announcement and its infrastructure planning implications; product plans described at the time may have changed.

The development

On 10 June 2025, Cisco announced a network architecture spanning campus, branch and industrial environments. Its announcement included new smart switches, secure routers, wireless additions and unified management capabilities. Cisco presented security and operational simplification as central parts of the design.

Practical implications

The following is XConnect’s planning interpretation.

A network refresh is most useful when it addresses a documented service problem. Different locations have different needs, from office collaboration to industrial equipment connectivity. A common management approach can help teams, but policies and change procedures must reflect the sensitivity of each environment.

What to review

  • Group sites by operational requirements instead of deploying one specification everywhere.
  • Review segmentation and access policies alongside hardware replacement.
  • Test management workflows and recovery procedures at a pilot site before wider rollout.
