Retrospective: This article was prepared on 17 October 2026 for our May 2025 archive. It reviews the announcement and its infrastructure planning implications; product plans described at the time may have changed.

The development

In May 2025, G42, OpenAI, Oracle, NVIDIA, SoftBank Group and Cisco announced their partnership for Stargate UAE. G42 described a planned one-gigawatt computing cluster within the larger five-gigawatt UAE–US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi. At announcement, the first 200-megawatt cluster was expected to go live in 2026.

Practical implications

The following is XConnect’s planning interpretation.

This was an announcement of a major planned project, not evidence that all of the stated capacity was already operating. For UAE businesses, such developments inform long-term market planning, while near-term deployment decisions still depend on available services and confirmed commercial arrangements. Keeping those two horizons separate makes procurement more disciplined.

What to review

  • Distinguish planned capacity from capacity available to a customer today.
  • Ask providers to identify service locations, delivery dates and support terms.
  • Build a migration plan around confirmed milestones and practical fallback options.
