Blackwell Ultra highlights the infrastructure demands of AI reasoning
Archive focus: March 2025 · Prepared 17 October 2026 · XConnect FZE

Retrospective: This article was prepared on 17 October 2026 for our March 2025 archive. It reviews the announcement and its infrastructure planning implications; product plans described at the time may have changed.
The development
NVIDIA introduced Blackwell Ultra on 18 March 2025 at GTC. The announcement included the GB300 NVL72 rack-scale platform and HGX B300 NVL16 system, with an emphasis on training and inference for reasoning-oriented AI. It also highlighted networking and inference-software developments alongside the computing hardware.
Practical implications
The following is XConnect’s planning interpretation.
A system designed for reasoning workloads should be evaluated as a service with a defined performance target. The useful comparison is the time and cost required to produce an acceptable result for a particular task. Facility readiness and network design must be considered before committing to dense computing installations.
What to review
- Specify response-time and quality requirements for the intended application.
- Assess power, cooling and physical installation constraints early.
- Measure end-to-end workload performance rather than relying on component-level claims.
