Direct connections to access points: specifying an MPTL correctly
Archive focus: February 2025 · Prepared 17 October 2026 · XConnect FZE

Retrospective: This article was prepared on 17 October 2026 for our February 2025 archive. It is a technical review, not a report of a launch in that month.
Technical context
A modular plug terminated link, or MPTL, allows a horizontal cable to end in a plug connected directly to a device in suitable installations. Fluke Networks explains that the test arrangement must include the field-installed plug, using the correct adapters and limits. This is a technical focus for the February archive, rather than a dated product launch.
Practical implications
The following is XConnect’s planning interpretation.
A ceiling-mounted access point may be awkward to reach after handover. That makes the initial termination and its acceptance record especially valuable. The designer, installer and test technician should agree which link model applies before work begins; otherwise a neat-looking installation can be tested using a configuration that does not evaluate the intended connection.
What to review
- Identify direct device connections separately from conventional outlet-and-patch-cord links.
- Specify the appropriate test adapters and test limits for the installed link.
- Match every test record to a location that the maintenance team can find.
