Wi-Fi 7: reviewing the structured cabling behind wireless upgrades
Archive focus: November 2024 · Prepared 17 October 2026 · XConnect FZE

Retrospective: This article was prepared on 17 October 2026 for our November 2024 archive. It reviews the announcement and its infrastructure planning implications; product plans described at the time may have changed.
The development
In a 20 November 2024 article, Cisco described its Wi-Fi 7 access-point launch at Cisco Live Melbourne and the connection with Cisco Spaces. The company positioned wireless networking as a foundation for both connectivity and building-related visibility.
Practical implications
The following is XConnect’s planning interpretation.
A wireless refresh still depends on a wired path. Check the selected access point’s uplink and power requirements against the switch, patch cords and installed link. Coverage design and physical cabling work should be coordinated, particularly where moving an access point requires work above a finished ceiling. The objective is to validate the whole connection before declaring a site ready.
What to review
- Survey existing access-point locations and the condition of their wired links.
- Confirm each model’s uplink speed and power requirements against the proposed switch configuration.
- Include cable certification and accessible identification in the installation handover.
