Retrospective: This article was prepared on 17 October 2026 for our October 2024 archive. It reviews the announcement and its infrastructure planning implications; product plans described at the time may have changed.

The development

On 29 October 2024, Cisco announced an AI server family using NVIDIA accelerated computing and AI PODs designed around specific use cases and industries. The announcement expanded Cisco’s data-centre portfolio and highlighted an integrated approach to enterprise AI infrastructure.

Practical implications

The following is XConnect’s planning interpretation.

Packaged infrastructure can shorten the list of design decisions, but it cannot choose a business objective. Before buying an AI system, an organisation should decide what improvement it expects and how it will measure it. The operating model needs to include people, facilities and support commitments as well as technical capacity.

What to review

  • Translate the proposed use case into measurable acceptance criteria.
  • Check the supported combination of compute, networking, storage and software.
  • Include power, cooling, maintenance and staff training in the project budget.
